Ikat

Ikat is a fabric made by using an Indonesian technique of tie dying the threads before they are woven.  It is quite popular right now and it's name mispronounced all the time.  For the record, it is pronounced EE-COT.

 I like Ikat. I want Ikat.  Can you imagine my reaction when I spotted a chair upholstered in this fabric among a sea of earth tone plaids and uninspiring microfibers at my favorite surplus and salvage store.  Looks  to me to be Kravet.

                               

So I pounced  on it.  A club chair manufactured by Century with it's $2,753.00 price tag still attached.  Then the markdowns begin.  First price at the salvage store, $799.00, then reduced to $279.00.  Sounds good to me, I'll take it.  But no, since I was taking it immediately, you bet I was, it was reduced again to $199.00.  Now that's a deal.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw this.

A cushionless sofa for $150.00.   My head is spinning, I get so excited when I stumble upon not one but two great finds at once.  I put a hold on it, time for some online investigating.


And look what I found at Ballard Design, I do believe it is my Kravet Vari Ikat masquerading as their Mirabella Seafoam Ikat.   I see cushions in the future.

From what I can tell, Kravet made this pattern in four colors, and only one greeny blue.  So I am hoping that the difference in shade is the internet's fault.  Notice the sofa and chair don't match either online and do in real life.  The fabric should be here in a day or two, I'll let you know.  Oh, the fabric was $32.00 a yard, more than I like to spend, but well worth it to fix the $75.00 sofa.  I wouldn't pay $150.00 for a sofa without cushions, not even this one, made in America by Century.
