You Need a Touch of Black

A room does not feel right to me without a touch of black.  Just a bit here and there makes a world of difference.  A room feels more grounded with a touch of black.

Fabric, trim, a cache pot, or a lampshade are all easy and inexpensive ways of adding black.  I have used gold lined black lampshades for years, this one from K-Mart a very long time ago.

These black lampshades add sophistication, make a statement and just plain look good!

I totally agree!

My living room with black sprinkled throughout and an antique or two.

Give it a try, I'll bet you'll agree, a room just doesn't feel right without a touch of black!

Silver Makes It Special

I am always on the look out for old silver plated pieces, be they from grandmother's attic or some once fabulous hotel.

Repurposed silver adds sparkle to a room. . .  any room.

Thrift shops, garage sales, and auctions all have these pieces. Who knows you might just luck out and take a sterling piece home for a song!

Hotel silver can be plain or fancy.

Its fun, it's inexpensive and look what you can do with it.

I keep mine polished, for a more formal look, but the tarnished look works well with shabby chic.  They say the more you use silver the less you need to polish it.

Grandmother's old tea set need not be used just for tea anymore!

Couldn't your home use a little sparkle?

Toss a few (or more) around . . . go pillow happy!

Craigslist

Since I am always on the lookout for pieces to paint and upscale, I am a frequent visitor to Craigslist.

Sometimes I find great deals and sometimes I find great inspiration.

And this is why my remnant stash and loaded staplegun are always close at hand!

Tj maxx Yellow Tagged Laguiole Knives

Bargain hunters, stop by the Tj's nearest you, some great markdowns going on.

I have read that a yellow sticker at Tj's means lowest price . . . ever, not necessarily true. I got word from the horse's mouth that items with a yellow sticker can be reduced yet again . . . If they hang around long enough.

Red stickers are fine, but I go for the yellow!

My find yesterday was something I actually needed, cheese knives. Sounds trite but we do eat and serve a lot of cheese and for years I have offered a dinner knife or some cutesy, cheapy, break in your hand, knife like item.

Imagine how thrilled I was to find these?

Well made knives from Laguiole, they even have their trademark, a bee, on them. How cute is that?

$15.00 bucks, not bad. I have also found that Tj's, more often than not, undervalues their "compare at" price, many pay close to $50.00 for these French babies!

Happy hunting!
