Navy and White Dining Room

Not so long ago, I decided I wanted to go neutral,
(like in paint)
BIG MISTAKE.

Didn't take me long to realize, I need color.

But something was painfully wrong.
The navy was not working at all with the tan,
AHA!
White.

Yep, white was the answer.

Don't you think?

A coat of white under the chair rail and crisp new drapes,
did the trick!
AND,
it took no time at all and way less than $100.00.
How's that for getting a lot of bang for your buck?

Paperwhites and Amarylis

It's time to plant some bulbs if you want blooms in time for Christmas.

Paperwhites will bloom in about 3 - 5 weeks.

Amarylis will bloom in about 6 - 8 weeks.

I'm on my way to Agway,

won't they make great hostess gifts?

Bird of Paradise

I spent quite some time researching corals for my living room. I was looking for something very similar to the coral Dorothy Draper used at The Greenbrier!

Bird of Paradise from Benjamin Moore did the trick for me.
I love it with the green and yellow and may just add some blue! (I'm just getting started.)

What do you think of my coral living room? I hope it keeps the gloom of a long Maine winter at bay!

Oh, before I forget, any suggestions for a great brown for my den?

Thanks a million,

Melinda

Craigslist Challenge

Our house has been on the market for a few months without much action, so our escape to the land of early bird specials and muu-muus has been put on hold.

In order to keep busy, freshen up the house, and just have fun I have begun the "Craigslist Challenge"' sell something on Craigslist and then buy something from craigslist, get it?

After selling a sofa from our living room I was absolutely delighted to find an antique camelback, something I have always wanted.

Newly upholstered to the tune of $1,500.00, it was a steal at one fifth that price!

I've always had good luck with Craigslist, how about you?

Garden Stools

Open any decorating magazine, they are there.  In the east, in the west. by the sea, or in the mountains, Garden Stools are everywhere.

I found my two at TJ Maxx quite a few years ago, on sale of course, and probably paid about $25.00 each.  They have been in almost every room of my house, together or by themselves.

Garden Stools are right up there with upholstered benches, pillows, and mirrors in my book, they go so many places and are so versatile.

I have two of these, the next one I get will be a bit bigger and rounder, but these have done well by me.

For a magazine, a glass of wine, or a cup of tea by the fire, it works.

Hiding in the corner, it works.

Flanking the front door at Christmas (there is one on the other side too), it works.

And next to the you know what, in the you know where, it works.

Downstairs, upstairs, and finally outside on the porch. they work.

Garden Stools are a must, don't you think?

One even made it to the garden!

Do you have a thing for Garden Stools like I do?

P.S.  Look up at Hobie, our yellow lab's, photo at the right, there's that Garden Stool again!
