Monaco Blue

Pantone's color of the year 2013, Monaco Blue.

Formal...

Or fun...

It works!

Trust me, it will show up on everything, everywhere, from Target to Neiman's. Can't wait, I think it's great!

Any Monaco Blue in your future?

Actually, I'm thrilled. I think I told you that I have been making tote bags and purses from uphostery materials. Well, I had some friends request blue bags. I innocently said, "Ok." I went to the first fabric store, then the next, then the third. Do you know that I could not find an actual true blue upholstery fabric? There were many gray blues and browns with a little bit of blue print. I wanted a really beautiful fabric, not cotton duck or some such nonsense, but it just wasn't there. So, perhaps now that Pantone has declared that Monaco Blue is THE color for 2013 folks will sit up and take notice that blue - true blue - has been missing from our decorator lives for a while now and it needs to make a comeback!

You never told me you made bags, as far as I can remember. Would love to see photos. Perhaps you could post a few on my Facebook Page!

I'll see what I can do. I don't have a camera myself, but I'm going to get our son to take photos of my bags the next time we visit him in Houston. I've sold a few of my bags to friends and co-workers, and they've been encouraging me to set up a site on Etsy.com to sell them on a broader market. I prefer upholstery fabric because it's heavier weight, prettier and I seem to have lots of it left over from other projects. I've also used vintage buttons on most of them that I inherited from my grandmother.

I forgot to mention that some of the bags have also been made from vintage uphostery fabric that I got from a lady here in Austin who had it stored in her garage since the 1960s. I happened to be at her house for a garage sale and asked her if she had any fabric to sell. She dug into an old wooden box and came out with a huge stack of folded fabric, telling me that she was going to throw it out because she didn't think anyone would want it, so she just gave it to me.
